 DeWayne Kervin 

DeWayne Kervin graduated from Red Level High School near Andalusia. He received his degree from Nevada-Las Vegas.

Kervin first came to Shelby Academy in 1979 when he served as head basketball coach, assistant football coach and as a history teacher. He became the head football coach in 1981 and has served as head master at the school since 1982.

He won the AISA State Championship in 2006, his 26th and last at the private school. Kervin, announced he was stepping down from his head football coaching duties at Shelby Academy in 2007.

Kervins record at Shelby Academy was 178-123-1 with two state championships over 27 seasons. His 1997 team finished 12-1, losing in the championship game. The 1998 team followed that up with a perfect 13-0 record and his first state championship.

In 2006 the Raiders won a second championship finishing the season 11-2. His 1997, 2003 and 2004 teams lost in the AISA finals. Kervins overall record is 172-118-1 in 26 seasons at the helm of Shelby Academy.

Kervin was named the Alabama Independent School Association Coach of the Year in 1992, 1997, 1998, 2004 and 2006.

Coach Kervin was named as the AISA Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 1998. He was inducted into the Alabama Independent School Associations Hall of Fame in 2003.
