He moved over to Arab for seven seasons beginning in 1955 where his last five teams had winning records. In 1962 he accepted the head coaching job at Lanett High School. There, Coach Webb took over a team that had gone 1-8-1 the previous year and turned them into a 7-2-1 winner his first season. Webbs second Lanett team would finish the season 10-0 and be named State Champions by the Birmingham News and Montgomery Advertiser. In 1967 Webb headed off to Decatur for another rebuilding job. In 1966 the Red Raiders had gone 0-10. Three years later they would be 9-1. In 1971 his Decatur team won their first playoff State Championship by defeating Butler 8-0 in the title match. His overall coaching record stands at 203-92-14. Webb won two state titles and several coach of the year honors over the span of his career. He served as president of the AHSAA Coaches Association and served on the AHSAA Central Board of Control for five years. Webb twice coached the North-South All-Star game. Decatur High dedicated its field house in honor of Coach Earl Webb. Webb is a member of the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Associations Hall of Fame in 1993. Coach Earl Webb would pass away at the age of 77. |
