Fred Schoenrock is a native of Meridian, Mississippi, graduating from Meridian High School where his team won state titles in baseball and football. He was a four year letterman in football, baseball, basketball and track and went on to play football, baseball and basketball at Louisiana College. Coach Schoenrock landed his first head coach position at Tylertown High School in Mississippi where he spent four seasons. His record in Mississippi was 22-12 over those four years. He also coached baseball at Tylertown. He moved to Demopolis in 1974 for the next fourteen seasons taking over the football program. His Tigers compiled a record of 109 wins and 48 losses and he was selected the Coach of the Year for Region 5 in 1974, 1975 and 1976. Schoenrocks teams won eight region titles including a run of five straight crowns in his first five years. His teams amassed a region record of 58-9, making the state playoffs nine times. Demopolis reached the semi-finals of the playoffs in 1983 and 1984. Seven of his teams won at least nine games. Schoenrock also earned the distinction of coaching the 1977 All-Star game. He was elected to the Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Coach Schoenrock continues to make his home in Demopolis following his retirement from coaching. His football overall record in Alabama is 109-48 and a combined 131-60 in both states. |
