Hooper Academy Colts
George Cochran
George Cochran was a graduate of Russell County High School in Hurtsboro, Alabama, and Auburn University.
Cochran began his head coaching career at Hooper Academy in 1972 and won two AISA state championships in his four years there. After winning another two state titles at Eufaula in 1978 and 1981 he took the head coaching job at Mosley High School in Florida in 1986 where he remained through the 1995 season.
In 1978, Cochran lead Eufaula High School to a state football title with a 12-0 mark. His Tigers shutout Colbert County High School 29-0 in the title game. The honors arrived following that banner year. He was Kelloggs Coach of the Year and Pepsi Coach of the Year.
The 1981 team defeated Hartselle 39-20 in the State Championship game for their second title under the direction of Coach Cochran.
In 1986, he was USA Todays Coach of the Year in two states during the same year.
In the Spring of 1986, he led Eufaula to a basketball title with a 24-3 mark. Cochran took over Mosley High School football coaching duties during the summer and brought the team from a 1-9 season to a 9-1 mark in his first season on the job.
Cochrans record as a high school head coach in Alabama stands at 141-22-1. His career high school coaching record in both states is 205-51-1. His mens basketball teams compiled an overall record of 193-98 in a basketball career spanning from 1962-1986.
