Hugh Wilson Jr. is a native of Marion and graduated from Livingston State University. Wilson got his first head coaching job at Palmetto High School in 1964.
Wilson became the head football coach at Billingsley in 1965. His 1967 team finished the season with a 10-1 record, losing in the state playoffs after completing an undefeated regular season. Coach Wilson remained at Billingsley for eight seasons before stepping down following the 1972 season.
In 1976 he accepted the head coaching job at Repton where he led the Bulldogs for ten seasons. His 1977 squad went 10-1-1 with another undefeated regular season for their coach. The 1985 team reached the State Championship game before losing to Sand Rock 14-6. That team finished the season with a 12-3 record.
In 1992, Wilson landed the head football coaching position at Marengo Academy. The Volunteers finished the 1993 season with a 4-6 record. Wilson, had a 7-13 overall record during his two years at Monroe Academy.
He also coached basketball at Billingsley and coached in Alabama All-Star basketball game 1970.
Coach Wilson compiled a 138-82-1 career record as a head football coach. Seven of his teams reached the playoffs and three won area titles.
