John Thomas "J.T." Elmore was born June 23, 1928 in Reform, Alabama. He graduated from Troy State. He was a retired coach and teacher for schools in Pickens County, Escambia County and in New Mexico. He also worked as an insurance agent for many years. J.T. was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War and was a well-known resident of Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties Elmore became the head football coach at Pickens County High School in 1955. Although he was only the head coach for four seasons, his teams made an impact on high school football. His squad went a combined 33-5-1 during his tenure at Pickens. The 1956 team went 9-0-1 and was named State Champions by the Birmingham Post-Herald. The 1958 squad repeated with a 9-1 record. Elmore was the head football coach at Escambia County for one season (1962) with a 5-4-1 slate.Coach Elmore passed away November 28, 2010 in Tuscaloosa at the age of 82. |
