Jamie Riggs
Jamie Riggs played football at T.R. Miller High School. Following graduation, he played at Troy State before receiving his degree. Riggs served as an assistant coach at McGill-Toolen and Winston County prior to becoming a head coach.
Coach Riggs accepted his first head coaching job at Opp High School in 1986 where his teams produced a 12-19 record. Following three seasons at Opp, Coach Riggs came home to T.R. Miller in 1989.
During the 1990s his Tigers won 117 games, more than any other team in the state. His team also won 27 consecutive games from 1994-95. Every team during his tenure at Miller have qualified for the state playoffs.
The Tigers have reached the semi-finals of the playoffs in fourteen of his seasons winning four state championships along the way. During his tenure at Miller his teams set a state record by scoring in 354 consecutive games. Twenty of his twenty-seven teams have won at least ten games.
The 1991 team finished with a 14-0 record and his first championship with a 46-6 thrashing of Deshler in the title game. The 1994 squad topped that with a 15-0 slate and another title when they beat Cleburne County 27-6.
Coach Riggs' third title came in 2000 with a 28-9 victory over Fayette County High School. That team finished the season with a 13-2 record. The Tigers won a fourth championship under the direction of Coach Riggs in 2002 with a 38-6 win over Colbert County and an 11-3 record.
Jamie Riggs is also the coach with the most playoff wins in state football history with an overall playoff record of 69-24 at Opp and T.R. Miller. Since arriving in Brewton prior to the 1989 season his Tigers qualified for the playoffs in every season his was the head coach.
The Tigers reached the semi-finals on fourteen occasions and the championship game eight times winning four titles under the leadership of Coach Riggs.
Coach Riggs left Miller following the 2016 football season and took over the head coaching duties at Houston Academy in 2018.
Riggs was named as the Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writer in 1994, 2000 and 2002. He is president of the Alabama Football Coaches Association.
