Joe Downey
Joe Downey joined the Theodore coaching staff in 1977 as an assistant coach. He graduated from Florida State where he played quarterback and was the team punter from 1971-1975.
Coach Downey also served as head baseball coach at Theodore. He was a 1970 graduate of Theodore before earning his B.S. degree at Florida State in 1975.
He accepted the head coaching position at Theodore in 1987. Downey remained the Bobcats coach through the 2001 season when he moved over to the AISA and Mobile Christian School. He was the head coach there for four seasons.
In 2011 he took the head football job at Cottage Hill Christian in Mobile. Downey stepped down following the 2013 season at Cottage Hill. His overall record is 123-114. His teams won eight area and region titles.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History
The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
