John Wiley
John Wiley became the head football coach at Union High School in 1969. He landed the head coaching job at the new J.F. Shields High School when it opened in the fall of 1972. He led the Beatrice team for the next eighteen seasons.
His 1973 team went 9-0-1 before losing in the state playoffs. Following the 1989 season, Coach Wiley stepped down as the head football coach of the Panthers.
Wileys overall football record is 101-88-4 in nineteen seasons as a head coach. His teams qualified for the playoffs eleven times but never won a playoff game in all those trips to the post-season. His teams also won nine area titles.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History
The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
