 Larry Bishop 

Larry Bishop graduated from Addison High School and attended Calhoun Junior College before receiving his degree from St. Bernard College in Cullman.

Bishop landed a job as an assistant coach at Hartselle 1971 after graduating from college. His first head coaching position came at Cold Springs in 1972 when he took over the football program. Coach Bishops team finished 1-9 in his first, and only, season with the Eagles.

In 1973, Bishop replaced Ronnie Propst and became the head football coach at Hazlewood for the next three seasons. His 1975 squad finished 13-1 and won the State Championship by beating Hokes Bluff 53-0 in the title game. Bishops three year record with the Golden Bears was 24-9-1.

Coach Bishop landed the head coaching job at Sulligent in the fall of 1976 for another three year stint with a record of 16-18.

In 1979, Bishop landed in Double Springs as the head coach at Winston County High School. Over the next fourteen seasons, Bishops Yellow Jackets went 94-62. He retired as the winningest coach in football history at Winston County winning over 60% of his games.

Bishops 1981 Yellow Jackets finished the season 10-1. His 1987 squad went 13-2, losing to Reeltown 9-7 in the State Championship game. During his tenure, Winston County made the state playoffs nine times.

Coach Bishops overall football record stands at 131-100-1. His teams were also 13-9 in the playoffs and won four area titles.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
