 Matt Griffith

Coach Matt Griffith is the second longest tenured head coach in Sylacauga history behind only Tom Calvin who was the Aggie head man for 21 years. Griffith has also served as Athletic Director for the past three years.

A 1987 graduate of Hokes Bluff High School, Coach Griffith followed in the footsteps of his legendary father, Doc Griffith, who was a high school All American for the Eagles. His next stop as a player was at Jacksonville State playing fullback for Coach Bill Burgess from 1987 through 1990. He was a member of the 1989 Gamecock National Championship Team.

Griffith started his coaching career as an assistant at Cleveland High School. That was followed by nine years at Pell City, 5 as an assistant and 4 as head coach. His last stop before coming to Sylacauga in 2005 was as an assistant at Thompson High.

He compiled a 98-64 record as the Aggie head man and had his team in the playoffs 11 times including the last eight seasons in a row.

At Sylacauga, Griffith has produced several All State players and several who have gone on to play in the college ranks. Most notable of the college players are Kelsey Pope at Samford and T.J. Green who started at safety for the 2015 Clemson Tigers.

In 2024 Griffith took over the football program at Victory Christian in hopes of building something successful there.
