Plott, a graduate of Carollton High School, played football at Jacksonville State. In his first head coaching job at Aliceville, he compiled a 26-9 record in three seasons. His teams qualified for the Class 3A playoffs in 2005-2007.
In 2008, he coached Pickens County to an 11-2 record. The Tornadoes went 2-1 in the 2A playoffs. One year later he moved on to Bullock County for a season in 2009.
He returned to Pickens County the next year where his teams went 37-5 and won the state title with a 15-0 mark in 2013. Coach Plott left two AHSAA championship trophies behind at Pickens County High School in Reform following the 2013 season. Plott coached the Pickens County boys basketball team to the Class 1A championship in 2012.
His next stop in was in Greenville, where the Tigers won the Class 5A, Region 2 title with a 6-0 record and advanced to the third round of the playoffs where they lost at perennial power Jackson.
After just one season he accepted a job at Auburn High as an assistant coach.
In 2020 Coach Plott landed at Carroll High.
