Reuben Nelson spent six years as head coach at Midfield, his alma mater, before taking over at Ramsay. He went 40-28 there, reaching the playoffs five times.
Coach Nelson started the football program at Ramsay in 2012 after they had not fielded a team since 1976.
Under Nelson, the Rams went 1-9 the first season back and 2-8 in 2013 before getting on a roll. They went 10-2 in 2014 followed by 7-4, 13-2, 7-5, 11-2, 10-3 and 13-1 seasons. In addition to the 2016 Class 6A state title, Ramsay reached the Class 5A quarterfinals twice and the semifinals a year ago. His teams at Ramsay won three region crowns and went 14-6 in the playoffs.
In 2021 Nelson moved over to Shades Valley as the head football coach where he will work to rebuild that football program.
