 Robert Johnson 

Robert Johnson was born May 13, 1970 in Birmingham, Alabama. He played football at Montgomery Academy for Coach John Tatum and was selected to the 1987 Alabama Sports Writes Associations All-State team as a center.

He led the Eagles to the 1987 State Championship as a senior. Johnson also played outfield and first base on the Eagles baseball team and was named to the All-City baseball team. He was named the winner of the 1988 Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award.

Johnson graduated from Montgomery Academy in 1988. He attended Auburn University and received a degree in Applied Mathematics in 1991.

Following college, Johnson landed his first coaching job at his alma mater in 1991 where he stayed for the next four years. In 1995 he moved to St. James where he served as the defensive coordinator for two seasons.

He was named as head football coach at St. James in 1997. Over the next ten seasons he led the Trojans to eight playoff appearances and three region titles. His record at St. James was 72-41.

Following the 2006 season, Johnson took over the Carroll High School football program in Ozark. He stay for three seasons before moving to Pike County for one year.

In 2011, Coach Johnson accepted the head coaching position at Tuscaloosa Academy where he remained through the 2018 season. His team the 2012 AISA-AAA State Championship with a perfect 13-0 record.

Coach Johnson also coached junior varsity basketball for 10 years during his career.

"I would like to thank God for so many blessings and my wife Elizabeth and children Noah, Alex, and Chloe for their love, support, and belief in me because coaching is not easy" Coach Johnson said. "I want to thank all the players that I have coached and their parents too."

Asked about influences in his life Johnson stated, "My father Dr. Alex Johnson, my mom Debbie Johnson, and my head coach John Tatum, are the main influences along with multiple other people in my life such as other coaches, teachers, Sunday school teachers, friends, and coaches that I have worked for and with."

In 2019 he moved to Lee-Scott Academy for one season before landing at Montgomery Academy for three seasons before stepping away from the sidelines.

He won two CCC coach of the year honors and five CCC titles. Coach Johnson was named the AISA Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2011 and 2012.
