 Ron Watters

Ron Watters graduated from Sylacauga High School and Auburn University. His first, and only, head coaching position came at Randolph County High School in Wedowee in 1979. His first team lost in the 2A State Championship game to Stevenson 9-0.

Over the next 22 seasons his teams qualified for the state playoffs a total of 12 times and won 6 area and region titles. His overall football coaching record is 147-97. His 1979, 1984 and 1998 teams reached the championship game but each came up short in their search for the schools first state championship.

He also coached the Tigers basketball team for 11 years with 173 wins, five country titles, three area championships and one region title.

Following the 2000 season Coach Watters retired from being a head football coach but not from coaching. He moved over to Heard County Georgia for 12 years where he served as an assistant coach before taking the offensive coordinator position at Handley.

Watters coached in the North-South All-Star Game in 1998. He was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Associations Hall of Fame in 2010. The Randolph County High School football field was named in his honor on October 28, 2016.
