 Steve Giddens

Steve Giddens, a 1980 Clay County High graduate, was a four-sport letterman during his football playing days. He actually played with Danny Horn in high school at Clay County.

Giddens received his degree from Auburn, graduating in 1984 with a major in science and a masters degree in mathematics.

Giddens landed at Randolph County High School and led the mens basketball team to a state runner-up spot in 1993.

He moved to Lineville as an assistant football and head basketball coach in 1995 and led the Aggie basketball team to the Class 2A State Championship in his first season. His 1998-99 team also made it to the final four.

Coach Giddens became the head football coach at Lineville in 1999 and was given the task of keeping the Aggie football program at the high level it had reached under former head coach Doug Goodwin, who resigned to take the head coach and athletic director position at Demopolis.

He had a 128-45 record during his 13 year tenure as head coach of Lineville, winning six region titles and finishing runner-up for the Class 2A State Championship in 1999 and 2002. He also served as the principal of Lineville High in its last year and the assistant principal the previous three years.

Lineville and Clay County consolidated in 2012 and Coach Giddens became the head football coach at the new school. Following high expectations, Clay Central went 10-2 under Giddens, winning the Class 4A, Region 3 title and advancing to the second round of the state playoffs.

Giddens resigned as head football coach after the 2012 season at Clay Central but remained as the athletics director and will serve as the assistant principal at the junior high school.

His overall coaching record is 138-47 in 14 seasons. His teams combined for a 31-14 playoff record in 13 appearances and won seven region titles. His 80-14 region record is among the best of all-time in the state.
