 W.C. Majors 

W.C Majors was born October 15, 1929 in Frisco City, Alabama. He played football at Frisco City High School in Monroe County and was a three-sport star for the Whippetts. He graduated high school in 1948.

Majors also played at East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba and earned his B.S. degree from Auburn University in 1953. He later received his Masters Degree from the University of Alabama.

Majors took a job at Excel in 1955 and became the head football coach at Excel the next year. One of his star players was Lee Roy Jordan of Alabama fame. He spent three seasons as the head coach at Excel and five years with the school.

In 1960 he went to Frisco City where he served as an assistant football and head basketball coach for four years.

His basketball teams at Excel and Frisco City, during a nine-year stretch, compiled a 151-41 overall record. In 1964 he took the head football coaching job at Fairhope High School.


During three stints at the school and 14 seasons his record was 105-41-3. In between he coached at Monroe Academy in 1975. He was the head coach at Fairhope 1964-70, 1973-75 and 1981-85.

His teams at Fairhope had a 21 game winning streak between 1966 and 1968. Majors was the head coach for the South team in the Annual state All-Star basketball game in 1960 and 1964.

Majors was state Coach of the Year in 1972 and served on the AHSAA committee which set up the first state football playoffs in 1966. The municipal stadium in Fairhope is named in his honor.

Majors was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Associations Hall of Fame in 1994.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
