 Woody Clements

Coach Woody Clements was born June 27, 1927, as Otha Woodworth Clements. He went on to graduate from Holt High School where he earned All-State honors as an end for the Ironmen in 1942.

Clements received his degree from the University of Alabama. After working as an assistant coach at Brookwood for one year, he returned to Holt in 1951 and would never leave.

In 1952, Clements was named at the head football coach of the Ironmen where he would remain for the next 41 seasons until his retirement following the 1993 school year. The 41 years at one school was a record for any football coach in the state for many years.

His teams would have a combined record of 240-166-7 over his career at Holt. He was also the head basketball coach at Holt for 18 seasons with a record of 264-167.

Clements 1971 team finished the season with a perfect 10-0 record. Ironically, the 1971 season may have been his best team and the starting quarterback was his son and a future Alabama high school coach at Gordo, Skipper.

Clements was named Coach of the Year in the West Alabama and Warrior Conferences prior to the playoff era in Alabama. The Holt Stadium is named in his honor.

Coach Clements passed away on February 6, 2002 in Tuscaloosa.
