Interesting facts about the history of a few overtime games in Alabama
* Northview played in back-to-back three overtime games in 1990. They defeated Vigor in the second round of the playoffs and lost to Murphy 10-7 the following week to get knocked out of the post season.
* When the AHSAA decided to play all tie games until a winner could be determined in 1974, Fairview took the idea to heart. Possibly they thought all games should be concluded in overtime as they played the first two games of the 1974 season into overtime losing to Brewer 10-7 and Buckhorn 21-20 to open the season.
* In 1979 Theodore defeated Blount 42-39 in week seven of the season and enjoyed the extra football so much they lost to Murphy the following week 33-26 in seven overtime. The Theodore vs. Murphy game of seven overtimes is a state record for the longest game in history. Lawrence County and East Lawrence matched that feat recently with a seven overtime game of their own.

* On the other end, UMS-Wright has not fared well in overtime having posted a 2-9 record. The Bulldogs have lost their last six overtime games and not won one since 1986. Oak Mountain is winless with a record of 0-9. Hillcrest Tuscaloosa is a dismal 1-8.
* The first overtime game was played on August 30, 1974 when Brewer defeated Fairview 10-7.
* Lauderdale County played in five overtime games in 1986 winning two of the contests. They tied the record set by Northview the previous season when the Cougars played five overtime games.
