Many may be surprised with our number one team in 3A as we have chosen
Fyffe to be the last team standing in December. Not many teams
could make a move up in classification and still be considered the best
team in that class but the Red Devils are not your average team by any
stretch of the imagination. There is a precedent here in that
Fyffe has been here before in 2020 when they were reclassified as a 3A
school and promptly went out and posted a perfect 15-0 record and won
their third state championship in a row. They also return most of
the starters from last season along with Logan Anderson.
The Locust Fork Hornets will be led by one of the most dynamic players
in the state in quarterback Dylan Embry who accounted for over 3,100
yards and 52 touchdowns in 2023. He is a magician on the field with
every snap.
Sylvania will have a
new head coach in 2024 and usually that might mean a slight downward
projection for most teams. But the Rams return most skilled
players from an 11-3 team and that may be enough to get them into the
hunt for a state championship this fall. QB Griffin Turner and RB
Aiden Parham accounted for over 4,200 yards last year and will once
again team up in the backfield for the Rams.
Gordo will welcome back most of their offense and eight starters to the
defense in 2024. The Green Wave will be a team to be reckoned with
come playoff time this fall.
The T.R. Miller
Tigers return ten starters from last season on offense and five to the
defense. They just well could be the team to beat in the south.
The drop down in classification from 4A will not hurt their chances at
all.
The Raiders of
Houston Academy
will line up with QB Kadyn Mitchell under center in hopes of winning a
school record of ten games in three consecutive seasons. Mobile
Christian ended their season the last two years in the playoffs and the
Raiders would like nothing better than to get over than hump in 2024.
Lee-Scott Academy
joined the AHSAA during the off season and will out to prove they belong
in the association. If the Warriors, led by QB Pelzer Reaves, can
navigate a very difficult region four schedule look for them to be
around a few rounds into the playoffs in the initial season with the
public schools.
Sleeper teams in 3A and teams to watch out for include: Southside
Selma, Mars Hill, Trinity, Montgomery Academy, Winfield, Hillcrest
Evergreen and Piedmont.
The most competitive region belongs to region eight as they have at
least three teams capable of running the tables in 2024.

Difficult Schedules 2024
The Bears of Plainview and Coach Pruitt
play in one of the toughest regions in the entire state. They also added Priceville, Fyffe and New Hope to their non-region schedule giving them the
honor of having the most difficult schedule in 3A this season. Four of the
top eight teams with the hardest schedules reside in region six.
Providence Christian scheduled Elba and Highland Home for their non-region
games in 2022-23. Those two teams finished last season with a 23-3 record.

No surprise here as Fyffe, Piedmont, Gordo and
T.R. Miller lead all 3A schools with the most wins over the past fourteen seasons. They also have
eleven championships between them. Fyffe and Piedmont also top the
list covering all classification topping Hoover's total of 160 wins.

Fyffe and T.R. Miller bump
some of the teams in this list from last year down a notch or two by joining
3A. Fyffe trails only Hoover with 290 wins over the past 25 seasons.
Their winning percentage does top every other team at 88%. The Red
Devils also have won 7 state championships which is also second only to
Hoover's eleven.
Gordo is one of only three teams that have not had a losing
season since 1998. They actually have the longest streak in the state and
have not lost more games than they won in any season since 1992.
