Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

Scott Rials

Scott Rials graduated from South Montgomery Academy and Auburn University-Montgomery.

Rials began his career as an assistant coach at South Montgomery Academy in Grady, his alma mater. He spent 10 years as an assistant before becoming the head coach in 1998 for six seasons.

After an 0-9 season in his first year as a head coach at SMCA, he led the Raiders to a 45-21 record, which including a pair of state runner-up finishes and four playoff appearances.

Rials came to Elba in 2004 when the Tigers were struggling, nearly a decade after the glory years of coach Mack Wood, who guided Elba to four state championship games. Rials restored Elba to a position among the states elite programs, averaging nearly eight wins a season.

In 2011, his Tigers set a school record with a 15-0 season that was capped off in Tuscaloosa with the Class 2A state title at Bryant-Denny Stadium in a dominating 34-14 win over Tanner.

His record at Elba was 70-37 with playoff appearances every season except 2006 and his teams won three region titles. He accepted the head coaching job at Satsuma High School in the Spring of 2013 before moving to Luverne in 2015.

After five seasons at Luverne he took his talents as a head coach to Baldwin County in 2020. Coach Rials was named the head football coach at Calera prior to the 2024 football season.

Coach Rials overall football coaching record is 185-111 in 26 years. He coached in the North-South All-Star game in 2010.
