Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

Tony Osborne

Tony Osborne was born November 13, 1962 in Anniston, Alabama. He graduated from Southside High School in Gadsden in 1981. Osborne was a team captain and named to the All-County team while playing football at Southside.

Osborne was a three year captain of the wresting team and a three year state qualifier in the first years of the sports existence at Southside.

He obtained a degree in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State in 1995 after working in the computer field for 10 years.

In the fall of 1995, shortly after receiving his degree, Osborne landed his first coaching position when he accepted the head coaching job at Westbrook Christian School in Gadsden. Over the next twenty-one years he remained with the program as the head coach of the Warriors.

Osborne led the Warriors to the Class 1A State Championship game in only his third season as a head coach. In 1997, Westbrook fell to Billingsley in the title game 28-6. That team was led by future Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle.

He also coached girls basketball at Westbrook from 1999-2003. His overall football coaching record in Alabama is 121-106 after 21 seasons as a head coach. Twelve of his teams qualified for the playoffs and five have won region championships.

Coach Osborne was selected as the Alabama Sports Writers Associations Class 1A football Coach of the Year in 1997 and won the same award for Girls Basketball in 1999. Coach Osborne is proud of the fifteen team and individual records his players have broken over the years.
