Posted - 10/21/2021 : 13:14:23 Good afternoon and we are back! As the season closes in on the finish, and teams get ready for the playoffs, or are getting ready to finish their 2021 season, we dive into this week which has the potential game of the year. So let's go ahead and get started
7A: Thompson vs Hoover So this is the game of the year potential for the state of Alabama. It would seem that the change of the guard has occurred as Thompson is what Hoover used to be, as they have crushed everyone in their way. However you would be crazy to think that Hoover will just roll over for Thompson. Hoover is the only team in the past years that have been able to give Thompson a good game. They are a very good football team, with a very good quarterback. You have the number 1 vs number 2 team in 7A, what else could you want. If there was any team to take down Thompson this year, it would be Hoover. My Prediction: Hoover, I am sorry but you are now the second best team in Alabama, Thompson has taken over and is now the national power. Hoover has concerns on defense and Thompson's offense will see the weaknesses. It will stay this way for this season, I am interested to see how Thompson will be next season as they will be losing a lot of talent. Thompson wins 35-21.
6A: Spanish Fort vs McGill Toolen 6A this week was tough to find a good game but this one stood out to me as these two are from the Mobile area and are battling for second place in the region. I want to see this game because I want to see if Spanish Fort is truly a title contender as we believed at the beginning of the season. McGill has been much better than the start of the season, but I have my concerns about their defense, but their offense is incredible. My Prediction: Spanish Fort will win and claim the second seed, but I do not think they will make it to the title, And I also don't think Saraland will make it(Saraland has burnt me 2 years in a row) I have Hueytown in the title game. Spanish Fort wins, 28-20
5A: Leeds vs Alexandria Leeds, I remember when Leeds rolled to back to back titles in 2014-2015. After that they kind of disappeared. Then I heard they bumped up to 5A and I thought they were really going to struggle as they had the previous years in 4A. Instead they are back to their winning ways. Alexandria I thought would take a step back this season and I was totally wrong. They have crushed everybody so far, Leeds is their toughest test. Leeds have struggled in some games, but have found a way to win. They have gotten better as the season has continued. Alexandria has their toughest test for the region title. My Prediction: I do not see any team beating Alexandria. Leeds you could say is lucky to be undefeated. But being lucky 9 times in a row is not true this is a good football team. But they are not good enough to defeat Alexandria. Alexandria wins 28-10.
4A: Good Hope vs Oneonta I won't lie to you, 4A has a really weak schedule this week, except for this game as it could bring more tie breakers and more craziness, just like what is happening in a few 4A south regions(I am talking about you, 4A region 2). I have to say this should be a really good game as they both are very similar. My Prediction: I truly believe this. Oneonta wins 41-35
3A: Southside Selma vs Thomasville 3A this week also is not the best week, but 3A did give us Catholic Montgomery vs Trinity last week, so we can't complain. I picked this matchup truly off of story. You have Thomasville, the team that seems to have been good forever. Versus Southside Selma, a team that went 0-10 in 2018. This game won't win a region championship, but it is Southside Selma's chance to host a first round game for the first time since 2003. Thomasville has lost 4 games to 4 very good teams. Southside has lost 1 game to a very good team that also defeated Thomasville. This should be fun to watch, The loser gets the 3 seed, but no one wants to travel in round one. My Prediction: Southside Selma wins a close one at home and secures their first round home field advantage for the first time in 18 years. Southside Selma wins 34-28.
2A: Luverne vs Isabella The battle for the region championship. Luverne is undefeated and only ranked number 9. I am not sure why, but I think they're one of the best in 2A. Isabella has lost 2 games, both to incredible teams in Fyffe, and Maplesville. It is a question of do you take the undefeated team, or the team that has lost 2 games to 2 very good teams. We shall see who wins. My Prediction: Luverne wins and secures the region title, but a close game. Luverne over Isabella, 21-16
1A: Decatur Heritage vs Hackleburg In 1A this week we have the one seed vs the team that would love to be the 2 seed. I am not sure how the tie breakers would work out with teams like R.A. Hubbard, but if Hackleburg wins it should bring more chaos for tie breakers. My Prediction: No craziness is happening, Decatur will take care of business. Decatur wins, 35-18.
That is all for this week, I look forward to watching the Hoover vs Thompson game like the rest of you, but comment what other games you are interested in. I would also like to say for the teams that do not get mentioned, or if I have never mentioned your team I am sorry, I try my best to have each region represented but sometimes it is hard to. I will see you all next week! |

I am with you on Oneonta. I just have a feeling they are going to pul it out. That region is a mystery. I have felt all year that Etowah was the most talented team in that region, but Good Hope knocked them off even though they crushed Oneonta. Being a fan of 4A Region 8, Good Hope lost to a team in our region that may not make the playoffs in West Morgan.
I'm pretty confident that Oneonta is the best team in that region. Don't be surprised to see them at least make the quarterfinals (although their easiest path would likely be as the 2nd seed). |

Posted - 10/21/2021 : 23:16:06 7A: Thompson vs Hoover Don't really have a choice but to choose this one. I think we might be getting ready to see Hoover get beat down in a way they haven't been in decades. I said before the season that Auburn was the only team with a chance at Thompson, but Auburn isn't quite there yet. It's only a matter of time before Coach Etheridge gets the Tigers rolling, but this is gonna be Thompson's year once again. Pick: Thompson wins 45-14
6A: Fort Payne at Oxford There's a real chance no team from this region wins a playoff game, but that won't matter this week. Both of these teams as well as Arab could still win the region. Arab is looking for just their second region title in school history. Here's the scenarios: If Oxford wins they are the region champs, if Arab loses then the winner of this game is the region champion, if Arab wins and Fort Payne wins then Arab wins the region. Pick: Oxford wins 27-21
5A: Alexandria vs Leeds I don't really think this game will be all that close. I'm still not convinced Leeds will make it past the second round, as they seem to play down to their competition. The only truly complete game they've played all year against quality competition was against Center Point. Any other time they've played a team with half a pulse they've struggled for at least a half. They won't be able to get away with that this week. Pick: Alexandria wins 41-14
4A: Vigor at St. Michael Vigor has already clinched the region title, but it's a 4-way tie behind them coming into this week. But for St. Michael, it's simple. They have to win or they're out. If they pull off the upset, not only will they make the playoffs for the first time in school history, but Philip Rivers' squad would actually host in the 1st round as the 2 seed. There also could be a chance Vigor rests some players for the playoffs, making this upset all the more possible. Pick: Vigor 24-21
3A: Wicksburg vs Slocomb There's probably not a region anywhere in the state that I know less about than this one. But what I do know is this one has region title implications. Right now there's a three-way tie at the top, but Wicksburg can't win the tiebreaker over Opp. Opp is done with region play, so it's actually pretty simple. If Wicksburg wins, then Opp wins the region, Wicksburg is second, and Slocomb is third. If Slocomb wins, then they are first, followed by Opp, and then Wicksburg in third. Pick: Slocomb wins 27-14
2A: Tanner at Pisgah Once again, I don't know much about either of these teams, but Tanner has been one of the stronger small schools in the state for most of the last decade. Meanwhile, Pisgah hasn't won a region championship since 2003. Both teams come in red-hot as Pisgah has won 5 straight and Tanner 6 straight. Pick: Pisgah wins 28-26
1A: Meek vs Berry Fayette You really could just put the entirety of Region 6 in this category. Every single game has playoff implications in one way or another. There's two different ways there could potentially be a four-way tie. I'll actually be disappointed if this region ends up nice and orderly by Saturday morning. Pick: Meek wins 22-16 |

Posted - 10/21/2021 : 15:43:08 Not a lot happening big in the Shoals this week so here are the games I'd say to keep an eye on.
4A West Morgan vs Rogers
There is a possibility that this region could have a 5 way tie for 3rd. Rogers has to beat West Morgan for that to happen. Both teams have had bright spots this year and some surprising letdowns. I think West Morgans ability to pass the ball will be the difference in this game.
Prediction: West Morgan 28 Rogers 19
Central vs Deshler Another game that plays into the possible 5-way tie. Deshler will need to win to put the region on that trajectory. Central started off on-fire and has since dropped 3 straight. Deshler has struggled this season but can still find their way into the tie if they can pull off a big upset.
Prediction: Central Florence 23 Deshler 14
2A Sheffield vs Hatton I think both teams had higher hopes at the beginning of the year. But that is not to say it is has been a bad season. Hatton stands to make the playoffs with a win. Sheffield can force a three way tie for 4th with a win and a Red Bay loss. Sheffield has the better playmakers imo, but Hatton is huge upfront and can dominate at the line of scrimmage.
Prediction: Hatton 16 Sheffield 7
