Within the last few days we have seen in the media coaches that accepted new jobs and have had a change of heart and went back to their old school or other places or have said they are not interested in being a HC right now.

Was just curious whats your thoughts and reactions of this and why you think this is happening.

Not pointing fingers and any recent coach that has done this, just curious of why one would consider a new school, take the job and then withdraw on their decision.

Is it just not what they thought it would be? Or another school make an offer to them?

mcslate said it perfectly, but, I don?t think that was the case for Rush. Anyone who legitimately thought he would stay at Coosa doesn?t follow much in the football world of Propst. He?s just a little bit closer to metro Birmingham now. I won?t be surprised if he?s coaching in metro Birmingham at some point again.

I agree Sloth? what a shortly lived time to be alive it was! I was actually kind of siked to see if a team in Alabama could compete with the IMG?s of the world.

it seems to me that the driving factor behind these departures and arrivals is just the level of commitment from the school boards and school systems. For instance the Mobile public schools are a mess while other public schools like Thompson are thriving. I think being a part of a large school system hampers your ability to put together a successful staff since resources are drawn out so thin. And in return the product on the field suffers. It will take schools Forming their own school systems and reallocate resources. But with that comes higher taxes for the surrounding community and some communities aren't willing to do that for an athletic program. Sorry for the rant but i think that's the underlying issue with the coach market right now, who will invest in you. Not enough jobs to go around.

Ah yes, the USA Academy, what a wild time that was... for three weeks haha! I'd have to agree with Mcslate though, it has to do with something along those lines.

I'm sure most people's initial reaction is to look at the coach but I do believe there can be good reasons for a coach to take a job and pull out. Most of it would come down to some disagreement over the operations of the football program. That might be only getting to hire X number of assistants rather than Y number, or a school not agreeing to spend the money a coach thinks it should, or possibly contract disputes (we read the stories on agreements but the actual signing to become the head coach comes some time after the headlines are ran).

I think back a few years when Rush Propst accepted the job at USA Academy and resigned a few months later. When he talked about no progress in building a football facility or how he didn't even get to make the schedule I couldn't blame him.

All in all, I guess I can't really make an opinion overall because unless I'm just personally close to the situation or the media digs deeper we'll probably never know what the disputes are. I'm sure there are a few wishy-washy coaches out there that change their mind on a dime. It's a setback for kids from both teams but at least then the schools can get the guy that's really right for them.
