In my opinion, one of the most fun parts of the playoffs is the early round upsets. Last year saw one of the biggest upsets in recent memory with Parker knocking off title favorite Clay-Chalkville 7-6 in the 1st Round of the 6A playoffs.

I usually just classify upsets based on the lower seed, but if you want to go even deeper, there is a list of point spreads here on the website based on the computer power ratings.

What upsets are y'all picking? You can list them all or just give me a couple you feel confident in. Mine are below.

7A
South: Auburn
North: Vestavia Hills, Hoover

6A
South: Theodore
North: Mortimer Jordan

5A
South: Headland, Carroll, B.C. Rain
North: Moody, John Carroll

4A
South: B.T. Washington
North: Corner

3A
South: Alabama Christian, W.S. Neal
North: Piedmont

2A
South: Goshen, Isabella
North: Collinsville

1A
South: None
North: Coosa Christian, Pickens County

I was thrilled about that one. Glad to see Coach Mansfield and those boys pull that one out at the end.

Yea he?s well thought of here and hopefully we can keep a hold of this one since we lost the best coach we ever had a while back that?s now at Comer. Mansfield is just behind him in the county pecking order

As bad as I hate to say this, I?d Ike to see Fossett and Comer win a blue map this year. I knew he was going to win there but not like this. He won us quite a few ballgames before he left for Smiths Station. No telling where we?d be now if he had stayed

How about them Dawgs! I knew they would give Decatur Heritage fits. This team has hit their stride. Just not sure what we?ll do against Pickens County next week but at least we?re hosting

I thought all year Arab was going to be one of those tough first round draws for whoever hosts them. Leeds has been Leeds as far as wins but nothing too dominant. Coach Ozmint will always have a team whose sum is greater than its individual parts.

Or not...

3A Flomaton

Wellborn got a lot of significant injuries from the Saks game and it showed in the upset to Cleburne County. With Wellborn becoming injury riddled at the wrong time of the season, the Flomaton-Wellborn game will be an extremely tight one. I think Flomaton isn?t no slouch team given their region.

PS: Per the Clay County player injury on the podcast. It was a runningback with 1,600+ yards and 20+ tds who broke his fibula. Doctors are waiting till this upcoming Tuesday morning to perform the surgery in hopes of the swelling to come down. The surgery will involve a plate and screws to fix his fibula and he will be out 6-8 weeks but is expected to make a full recovery for next season.

We tend to forget that upsets happen every year. On average 7 four seeds defeat the #1 seeds every year. So it happens. Last year 6 pulled off the upset in the first round.

Add to that list of possible upset winners:
1A - Brantley, Ragland
2A - Vincent
3A - Southside Selma
6A - Briarwood
