It seems the past two weeks the Ft. Payne Times Journal thought our articles were so great they decided to copy and paste them into their newspaper. So they took the playoff game previews and copied them word for word and actually printed it.
It is about a page and a half in print. They also posted them on their website which has since been taken down.
I am making this go viral and I am asking you to help. Tag them in a post. This lazy journalism has to stop. If you like what we do use twitter and Facebook to call these people out. This has to stop and I am leading the campaign.
The majority of the media is very good at using our work and thanking us for it. But this is beyond belief. Everything you see at AHSFHS.org is my work. There are no stolen pictures or articles. Not a single paragraph. Not a single photo.
I am tired of being use by lazy people in the media. We provide the BEST source for high school football in the state and welcome the media to use it as a resource not as a copy and past information center.
Rant over for today.

Posted - 11/18/2023 : 03:49:18 I just don't understand the laziness and unethical behavior of it all (nevermind legality). This is something you're taught in middle school English class, way before journalism school. |

By the way, the Winterboro score is wrong. Pickens won 38-29. It was 32-29 at one point until Pickens put it away |

Posted - 11/17/2023 : 18:42:23 No worries David, I completely understand and would be disgruntled if my hard work went being used like the paper shows. I guess my reference wasn?t towards copying the entire thing but maybe using a small portion of it, but I agree plagiarism is plagiarism regardless of how small it is. Regardless, I still think credit was more than deserving at the same time and at the same time an email could have been sent to you asking for permission. I support what you?re charging towards.

Posted - 11/17/2023 : 18:26:47 Sorry Jeremy but that is not true. No one has the right to use anything copywritten. Is it ok to copy a paragraph? What about a page or a chapter or a book. If all you had to do is give the original author credit then you could copy and paste Tom Sawyer and give Mark Twain credit on the last page and sell a million copies.
Why not just copy the USA Today website and credit them at the bottom. What's the difference?
It is plagiarism to copy any portion of another persons work. You may use a blurb of some of the facts but legally you may not copy and paste it.
Here is the definition: Plagiarism is the fraudulent representation of another person's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. And Copyright: Copyright infringement is a violation of the rights of a copyright holder, when material whose use is restricted by copyright is used without consent.
The main point here is that everything on AHSFHS.org is copywritten therefore they have no right to use any of it even if they credit the source. I have overlooked this hundreds of time in the past 17 years but it is getting out of hand.
Most in the media stand with me here as proven on twitter today. Most work hard to produce content for HS football and I have great respect for the work they do.
Sorry Jeremy but I'm in a bad mood right now. Just hope everyone understands why this is so wrong. Oh and I did talk to three different people at the newspaper including the owner before posting anything anywhere. That is why I am taking this route.

Posted - 11/17/2023 : 17:14:59 All that it needed was a small insert giving credit to the website and I'm sure all would have been well. I agree with what you said and stand for David. Good job on calling them out.
Have you reached out to them directly? Got any response back? I messaged them directly calling them out. ;)
Our local paper (The Randolph Leader) has used website info a time or two and I always see them give credit to the website. ;)
