Mobile doesn't make a lot of sense. That's a long haul for northern teams. Same as if the Super 7 were hosted in Huntsville; it would be difficult for southern teams.

Not sure why not Auburn, it's not like they are going to be hosting any playoff games..

Roll Tide!! haha!

Yes. Per al.com's Ben Thomas, Mobile will host the 2026 and 2028 AHSAA Super 7 at South Alabama's Hancock Whitney Stadium.

I'm hearing that they are close to making some decisions on this matter.

Mobile and Troy seem to be in good shape, but Montgomery is having some difficulty securing the needed volunteers for the event.

The smaller schools are just as deserving of the grand stage and pageantry as the bigger schools. I can tell you firsthand that the event is a huge part of the reward for making that far.

Bryant-Denny and Jordan-Hare swallow all but the 7A games whole. The experience of playing on the historic fields is great, but in terms of playing environment it leaves a lot to be desired when a 1A team brings a couple hundred fans at most. Downgrading locations to stadiums not quite so huge would be beneficial IMO.

Per Ben Thomas at al.com

Super 7 decision looms

The AHSAA?s Central Board of Control is scheduled to meet Wednesday, and the location of future Super 7 football championships could be on the agenda. (Although winter weather could force a change in the meeting).

Birmingham, Mobile, Montgomery and Troy all have been talked about as possibilities to host the championship games in the future after Auburn and Alabama were removed from the rotation due to the expanded college football playoff.

One interesting idea that has been floated ? depending on the eventual site ? is the possibility of going from a three-day event to four days. The Super 7 has opened Wednesday and finished Friday recently, avoiding the conflict of going up against college conference championship games on the first Saturday of December.

Is that still a big deterrent for Saturday play or could the Super 7 even open on Tuesday and end on Friday? The event includes the seven classification title games and a pair of girls flag football games.

I wouldn?t mind it going four days. From a coverage standpoint, it would allow us to focus more on two games a day than the normal three and would allow all the teams to use the normal lockerrooms at any of the stadiums. Currently, the middle games each day use auxiliary lockerrooms because of the timing of the games.

Just a thought.

Maybe we will find out soon what the plans are for the location and the schedule.

I had not heard about them making the Super 7 4 days!!! Interesting.
Back in the day when it was the Super 6 and six classifications, it went Thursday-Saturday with two games each day.
Now there is seven classifications and 2 girls flag football games.

No decision yet. It could be a little while. But I think they will stay in Birmingham.

@dparker...have you or anyone else heard or seen anything about the new sites for the Super 7?

I tried to look on the AHSAA site to see when the next board meeting was, but I was unable to find it. I think in the past they are on Thursdays so it may be tomorrow or the 23rd.

I figured some kind of decision would need to be made sooner than later. Especially to the city/stadiums involved.

Thanks! Have a good one everyone!

I was told by someone with the AHSAA it would be a couple of months before a decision would be made.
