Holt High School will no longer participate in varsity sports after 2025 school year.

The school will still be open but if students want to play varsity sports they will be allowedl to play at either Brookwood or Tuscaloosa County High School.

Source is from Tuscaloosa News and other media outlets.

Ouch. Wonder how it all came to this? It wouldn't surprise me for a 1A or 2A school but a 4A school is kinda shocking. I'm guessing this also affects the programs that support the athletics too like marching band or cheerleading (yes cheerleading is physically demanding too, don't @ me cheermoms).

I won't say too much since it can be hearsay but I remember in the late 00s my alma mater ended up hiring a principal who previously served as principal at Holt. The worry I'd heard from a few parents was that he openly didn't care about sports and didn't see them as a priority. Maybe it's a culture thing over, or lack thereof a sports culture.
