Posted - 08/01/2025 : 15:46:05 I hope to do a couple of more regions in my area. This is the based off a couple of publications where I got very little info, things I have heard from fans of these teams, Hudl, and just first hand knowledge. Some information therein may be incorrect. Please update me if you know different.
9.) Wilson Warriors: Last years record 0-10.
I wish I could find something positive to say here, but two years and 1 win is a tough pill to swallow. I know Coach Lane is doing what he can and I believe the roster #'s went up last year, but they still have a way to go. From what I have seen, this is a pretty small senior class. I will say that the LB duo of Logan Schmucker and Reece Young were very impressive last season. Both kids pursued well and Young was pretty solid in drop back coverage.
8.) Danville: Last years record: 3-7.
Danville appears to have a pretty small roster (numbers wise) but has some kids that can play. QB Jace Glenn has a good arm and makes some pretty long ball throws, just not sure how many weapons he has around him. The defense for the Hawks may be where they shine. Matt Tidwell was an absolute tackling machine from LB last year and 6'3" 230lbs DE Micthell Owens can definitely disrupt a play.
7.) East Lawrence: Last years record: 3-7
The Eagles are another team that typically struggles with low numbers. It's a shame. They gave Hatton all they wanted last year, but still limped to the finish line with a dismal 3-7 record. Aeden Jones has shown to be a really solid cornerback that will put pressure on whoever your #1 receiver is. Cayne McClure is a legitimately good high school running back. Kid run from the RB position and from under center. He is a tough runner that can dish out punishment as well as take it. I seriously considered putting East Lawrence higher largely due to his performance or projected performance, but the low #'s concern me too much at the 4A level (hopefully that has changed for them.)
6.) Central Florence: Last years record: 8-3
I thought they would have a special season last year and I contend they did. I know they wanted more but it was a pretty special season. Losing all three of their biggest playmakers from last year, Brewer, Palmer and Hanback will be tough. I am sure they will have some kids step up, but I just really don't know a lot about them at this point and losing that much production isn't easy to overcome.
5.) West Limestone: Last years record 4-6
Average 22 per game and gave up 21 while finishing 4-6. Talk about a season right down the line. Surprised they didn't finish 5-5. Jaden Reed played well in the defensive backfield last year, don't see any reason that should change. Keaton White will anchor the line and look for Brayden Moore to get more involved on the offensive side the ball. I see the Wildcats having a pretty similar season to last year. A good bounce here or there and they may find themselves in the playoffs.
4.) Brooks: Last years record: 10-3
Brooks will be going for a school record 3 straight quarter final appearances. However, it will be a dogged uphill task. Losing do-it-all QB Garrett Burrough is a massive void to fill. Having one of best running back duos in 4A north in Speedy Coffey and Ro Thompson can definitely help alleviate some of that void. Tanner Bowens is one option at QB, but that takes away arguably the best receiver on the team. The defense, which I expect to be a bit ahead of the offense to start, will be anchored by LB Charlie Buttram and FS Brooks Moore. The defense improved drastically last year after a dismal 2023 campaign. With help from others like Bam Campbell and Trystan Young they have a chance to be really good, but they will be tested early against the West Morgan Rebels, who hung 42 on them last season. And if Brooks get in a close game, 4 star kicker Charlie Bottoms could be a huge difference maker.
3.) Hatton Hornets: Last years record 6-5
Hatton didn't wait long to announce their presence in 4A when they shocked the area by knocking off Deshler in their opener. New head coach Nikita Stover looks to continue success he has had at Decatur Heritage here in Town Creek. Tasean Love was a one man wrecking crew last year for the Hornets and while he is one to watch, the additions of DHHS players Daniel Taylor Jr and Savaarius Evans will help take a lot of pressure off him. This team could be electric on offense. They will be fun to watch. Not sure how their defense is coming along, but they may just win track meets all season long.
2.) West Morgan Rebels: Last years record 13-1
The Rebels are going for their third straight region title. Their only losses in the previous two years were to eventual North champion Cherokee County which is nothing to sneeze at. The Rebels will continue to give the rock to Macari Johnson and let him run behind the big holes made by Krishawn Goode. Also returning is QB Trisna Partlow who got better and better as the season went along last year. Drew Phillips team will be a tough out again this year.
1.) Deshler Tigers: Last years record: 8-4
Price Thornton to Garrett Reid is where it all starts. This is possibly the best QB to WR combination in the area. As goes this duo, so goes Deshler. Reid played through some injuries last year that held back their production. This year could be special from the senior duo. Adrian Byrom is another good target for Thornton. Brady McKinney was a huge asset on special teams last year, helping set Deshler up with good field position.
These are just my initial feelings and they could change as we learn more information and inch closer to opening week. I just always like to put some fodder out there for conversation and as a way to welcome in a new season. And honestly I think this top 4 could be in any order.
Looking forward to another good one!

Posted - 08/01/2025 : 18:51:19 I think that WM-Deshler game will be electric. End of the season in Trinity will be nice--remember, Deshler was a few inches away from beating WM to make the playoffs (and thanks to weird tiebreakers, they were left in the cold at the end of the year).
Stover getting some dudes to Hatton will be extremely helpful--from what I saw last year at the Hatton-Russellville game, Hatton had some decent talent, but they didn't really seem to be putting it all together. A little bit of continuity and a touch more talent can help alleviate some of those problems.
I really wouldn't disagree with any of your picks. I might put Brooks ahead of Hatton, and WM over Deshler simply because the game is in Trinity, but ultimately that is pretty much my top 4. And while I know it's a different sport, Deshler having so many of those football guys getting a taste of a blue map in baseball may help them get a taste for that success in football. |
