It's the time in the playoffs when games start getting a lot tougher!
What are some of the most anticipated games for everyone this week?

6A: Saraland vs Spain Park. I think most folks were leaning toward the winner of this game being the favorite to win it all.
5A: UMS and Vigor. Vigor won this one by 16 earlier in the year, but UMS is always so tough in the playoffs. Should be interesting to see if it's a closer game.
4A: Anniston vs. West Morgan: West Morgan has only been challenged once this year. Anniston has struggled at times but are always dangerous. Interested to see how Anniston does against the stingy defense of the Rebels.
3A: Fyffe vs Piedmont: Fyffe answered a lot of questions last week. Piedmont hasn't been as overwhelming as I thought they would have been thus far. Also interesting to note that Piedmont hasn't ever beaten Fyffe. Only 3 meetings between the two, but I was shocked by that.
2A: Pisgah vs. Tuscaloosa Academy: Two teams that can sling the ball around. Should be a wild one.
1A: Berry vs Wadley: Wadley has been the overwhelming favorite in the North but Berry shocked a lot of people by holding the high powered Spring Garden to 0 points last week. Wadley is average 53 a game while Berry is just under 50 a game.

If I could be in more than one place at a time, I'd be at:
7A Central Phenix City vs. Hoover Hoover has certainly turned things around from last year. I've watched a lot of the Hoover players since they were in the 2nd grade. Hope they can get a win in this one. Go Bucs!
6A Saraland vs. Spain Park Spain Park has been having a great season this year. Maybe they can keep it going.
5A Moody vs. Ramsay I'll actually be at this one, wearing navy blue and Vegas gold. Oh, and also wearing a heavy coat!
Catholic Montgomery vs. Central Clay County This looks to be a game that will go to the last second. I wish I could be there.
1A Wadley at Berry Fayette Two tiny towns and two great football teams. I know they'll be putting 100% into it this week. Can't pick one because I have friends in both places. |

I'm kinda interested in that Winfield-Mars Hill game. Partly because it's less than 3 miles from my house, partly because I have some friends in both places, but I think it could be a really good quarterfinal that gets overshadowed by the Piedmont-Fyffe tussle.
Saraland-Spain Park looks like it could be awesome.
I've been beating the "Ramsay is as dangerous as anyone" drum the last few weeks. But going to Moody is gonna be a tough task. |

1A: Berry and Wadley will be a shootout. Berry's defensive effort last week gives me some hope that they can hold their own, but Spring Garden isn't Wadley. I think strength of schedule and big game experience are factors in this one. Wadley's been here before so I 'd give them the edge.
2A: TA and Pisgah will be lights out. If they we're closer I'd be finding a ticket. Pisgah played a complete game and put down Fyffe earlier in the season. TA sort of floundered late dropping 2 with losses to Coosa and Sulligent. Pisgah probably gets the nod but if anyone can play with them, it's Preston Lancaster and TA's receiver room.
Oh yeah, almost forgot there are 2 other teams playing in 2A. I'm not sure how to feel about this game. Winston County may not have the same strength of schedule, but they've got the #4 Offense and Defense in 2A. Sulligent got hot late, but they got beat up in a close one against Southeastern. That's not a good sign against a historically physical team like Winston County. Vincent was their only common opponent, Sulligent lost by 3 TDs and Winston won by 5. Regardless of the outcome, who can honestly say they had these 2 teams in the 3rd round preseason.
3A: Winfield vs. Mars Hill is a good one. I always like rooting for the public schools in these games. Those boys will have a chip on their shoulder, I'm just not sure if it'll be enough.
Fyffe and Piedmont will be the game to watch in 3A North. Fyffe has played some tough games this year and taken it on the chin a couple times. Not common for most Benefield teams. I'm not sure Piedmont has been tested like Fyffe though, and I'm not sure they've been tested the way that Fyffe will test them Friday night. As long as Benefield is there, it's hard to bet against them. |

Watched Fyffe last week against Gordo. There DL especially #70 was playing at a really high level. |

I actually like Anniston's chances to beat West Morgan. Anniston's offense has gone missing against good defenses this year, so if they're able to move the ball with any sort of consistency I think they'll win that one.

6A: Saraland vs Spain Park In all likelihood the winner will reach the state championship game. Spain Park is a great team, but I think Saraland wins this game pretty comfortably.
5A: Montgomery Catholic vs Central Clay Co. Probably the first playoff matchup in 5A between two legitimate state championship threats. This could be a close game or either team could blow out the other--none of those results would surprise me.
4A: Brooks vs Cherokee Co. Nobody is going to pick them, but Brooks can absolutely win this game. They'll score some points. The question is can they get some stops or force some turnovers. If Brooks can win the turnover battle +2 I think they'll win.
3A: T.R. Miller vs Houston Academy Since everyone is going with Piedmont-Fyffe I'll go with this one. I think the winner of this one will go the state championship game. I also think this is the best team T.R. Miller has faced all year.
2A: Reeltown vs Cottonwood Again, I'm just being different here. I think everyone pretty much knows how good Reeltown is, but Cottonwood was in a weak region, so this is the first time they'll play another title contender.
1A: Millry vs Maplesville Simply put, I think the winner of this one will play Wadley in the state championship game. |

I think this will be a great game. Two great offenses and defenses. I do think HA is the best team TRM will face. Also, HA head coach Eddie Brundidge and assistant Jack Whigham used to coach at TRM. They were on Coach Jamie Riggs' staff at both schools and Brundidge took over at HA when Riggs left.
As of now, and with it in Brewton, I give the nod to TRM.

Halftime WM 43 - Anniston 6, your analysis of Anniston's offense disappearing against good defenses holds true. |
