I?m thinking it?s about both the CHOOSE ACT and reclassification and how, if any, relationship they have with each other. Should private schools reveal how many students are enrolled who are getting CHOOSE ACT benefits? Will that have an impact on the 1.35 multiplier? Maybe they?re going to also talk about a Private School classification similar to Louisiana? Are some public AHSAA members making more noise than usual about the competitive advantages Private Schools have? I?m sure it?s not anything new but has the CHOOSE ACT made their concerns greater?

I know it reached a point where the AHSAA was tired of responding to the CHOOSE Act and was desperate for school administrators to speak out against it instead of just the AHSAA, but I feel like most schools have stayed quiet. So I can see Heath pleading his case on why he wants private schools to be on their side.

You didn't hear it from me, but I think a split is imminent...

IF the private schools currently in public school regions, split back into their own class, does that mean you can still play them and count the outcome on your record? Or does it mean that the modifer will go up go maybe 2.0 per kid due to the choose act but the schools stay in public school regions?

So...Louisiana style huh? Honestly, I dont like it. They should be able to work out a way for all the schools to stay together. I think Louisiana is different for reasons that don't apply to Alabama. It will be a sad day for HS sports if there is a split.

I like what Ben Thomas wrote and maybe it is too late. If the privs split off the good part is public schools will no longer complain. It also removes that convoluted factor and formula calculations simplifying classifications. Its a shame though, I still wish it gets worked out because I think its better for all the student athletes.

There is merit to both arguments.
I also wonder, if they remove the private schools, do we go back to 6 classifications. That removes a lot of schools. Feels like it would make some classes really thin.
6A could still be the 32 largest, like 7A now. Then just alter the numbers for the rest and compress the other classes to 5. This would be much more similar to what we had pre 7A, but still offsets the half dozen to ten or so schools that would just have almost unfair numbers and resources. |
