                      | For teams that begin the yearly highly ranked? Is making the playoffs a successful season?
 Is winning a playoff game?
Making it so far in the playoffs, or does a team consider a successful season to be making the state title game and winning a Blue map trophy?

I know every team is different and have different expectations.
What should be considered a successful season with teams that start in the top 10 ?

                      | Success would depend mostly on internal expectations. I know as fans we love to look at rankings and make our own (guilty!) but the coaches and guys in the locker room set their own expectations regardless of preseason ranking.
So for instance, let's say you're ranked 8th in the preseason, but you know the guys you lost were hugely important to your success in the previous year (which largely informs preseason rankings) and you know that two other teams in your region are loaded with upperclassmen talent. You may see success as getting a top 3 spot in your region, even being ranked preseason.

Now let's say the same scenario, but your team was really young the previous year and you didn't lose any major contributors. You may see a deep playoff run as success and failure otherwise.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but that's just my thoughts on it.

                      | Expectarions are different for every school.
 In order

 State championship
 Region title
 7 regular season wins
 6 regular season wins
 5 regular season wins

Anything less than 5 wins in high school is probably a disappointment. There are tons of 0 win or 1/2/3 win teams that would love to have 5 wins.

                      | I think it depends entirely on the program. I mean Columbia would consider 1 win a great season, while on the other hand, Fyffe/Mars Hill/Wadley would consider a 3 loss season a disaster. Brindlee Mtn/Vina would throw a party if they made the playoffs so would several other schools while a school that is a consistent championship contender would be dissapointed if they didn't make it past the third round. Also, several schools have unrealistic year to year expectations. Fans don't realize that talent comes in crests and waves. You may have two or three years of top flight talent and then a year or two where the kids just don't want to play or they may not be as good. |

 Thanks for the reply.

I know being an alma mater of Clay Chalkville I expect us to win every year.
I know as a program that is not possible to win it every year.
At the point the program is right now a state title this year is the goal.
Anything else I feel like it's a disappointment. As a fan I know that I probably highly expectations but fans usually have to high of expectations anyway.

That was the purpose of my thread to get feedback from different points of view.

So ty and all who replied.
