Hey guys,
I am working on something and need to find the best games over the past ten years. If you remember a game which stands out to you please let me know.

The Thompson win over Auburn 29-28 will be at the top of my list and Central Clay County's 43-42 win over Vigor in the tile game from 2018 would be up there.

Just post any games you remember that had great comebacks, dramatic finishes or anything else interesting. Or you can email me at dparker@ahsfhs.org

Thanks as always.

2019 Pleasant Grove vs Central Clay. Pleasant Grove came up a yard short of winning championship. Reminded me of the Titans v Rams Super Bowl.

Hillcrest @ Wetumpka in 2020. The 9 lateral game. Craziest finish I've ever seen.

Best high school game I've seen in person was the Gardendale vs. Clay-Chalkville 6A quarterfinal game this season.

Clay-Chalkville led by 23 with under a minute to play in the 3rd quarter. Gardendale scored with about 30 seconds to go in the quarter then held Clay-Chalkville scoreless during the 4th quarter while scoring two TDs and a FG to tie the game at 44 and force overtime. GHS went for a 2 point conversion on one of the TDs, but didn't make it. Clay eventually won in overtime 50-44 and went on to win the state title two weeks later.

As a side note, CCHS won the regular season match-up 46-0.

This year's Pisgah v Tanner game was a really good one. It has to be among the top games around north Alabama over the past 10 years. A back-and-forth 4th quarter that lead to Pisgah's first region championship since 2003.

Rattlers drove 40 yards on nine plays to go in front 7-6 on Trey Crutcher?s 10-yard touchdown run and Emanuel Gonzalez?s PAT with 7:40 remaining.

Pisgah offense, held in check most of the night, answered in a big way. Holcomb scrambled for 22 yards to convert a third down before throwing a 46-yard touchdown pass to Jake Hendricks with 4:32 remaining Parker Law ran for two-point conversion to put Pisgah in front 14-7.

Tanner countered with an eight-play, 60-yard scoring drive capped off by Crutcher finding the end zone from 6 yards out on a fourth-and-1 play. The Rattlers decided to go for the win, but their bread-and-butter play with Crutcher that had produced most of the night was stopped short by Pisgah's JD Martin, Dallon Phillips, Barrett and Caleb Green, sparking a wild Pisgah celebration.

Go Eagles!

I believe it was back in 2017 that Randolph County beat Piedmont in the semifinals by scoring a TD with a minute to go, recovering an onside kick, and then scoring again to win the game.

In 2018, my Lincoln Golden Bears broke a 4 game losing streak against our biggest rivals Munford by completing a hook-and-ladder for a touchdown on 4th and 19 from our own 1 yard line with under 2 minutes left to win 28-27.

Another one I immediately thought of was that Austin-Pinson Valley semifinal game a few years back that ended like 51-50 in OT and had two Mr. Football candidates in Bo Nix squaring off against Asa Martin.

On Piedmont losing side:
None are my greatest but the one above was a heartbreaker. The 2013 Madison Academy game would rank with any and
Piedmont v Walter Welborn 2019 regular season

On the winning side:
Piedmont v Mobile Christian state championship game 2019
Piedmont v Montgomery Academy state championship game 2021
Piedmont v Alexandria 2020
Piedmont v Jacksonville 2021

Thanks. One game not mentioned that I think has the craziest ending of all time was the Thompson vs. Auburn game for the 7A championship last year. What a finish.

The Vigor vs. Central Clay in 2018. Clay won 43-42 in a wild one

Also the Pinson Valley vs. Austin game was amazing.

Keep 'em coming. Looking for more that I have forgotten about. I am looking into all these.

2011 playoffs Rogers defeated a heavily favored Piedmont team 28 to 21. But the backstory is what makes it special. A kid on the Rogers team, Briar Allen has lost his mother just a few days before the game iirc. The whole Greenhill community had rallied around this woman and her family and her death was devastating. Rogers was winning toward the end of the game but the Piedmont machine was driving and it just felt like another one of those games where the powerhouse would show up and crush the hearts of the other team, then Briar Allen makes a pick to seal the win. I was there. There wasn't a dry eye on the Rogers side of the field.

2018 Brooks vs Mars Hill. This was the year that Mars Hill became Mars Hill. Mars Hill was decimating the competition, albeit in a lower class. Brooks was a pretty solid 4A team, so folks around here saw this as the litmus test to see how good Mars Hill really was. The game went back and forth all night with both offenses pretty much having their way. Brooks scores with around a minute to go and Coach Black put his onions on display and went for two. Lake Spurgeon did a qb sneak to convert the 2 point play and Brooks won 36 to 35. Mars Hill went on to not lose another game all year and handily won the 1A State Title.
