7A: Baker vs Daphne
The duo of QB Josh Flowers and RB Bryce Cain are fun to watch for Baker, and the offensive fireworks are often needed with a lackluster defense. The jury is still out a bit on Daphne. They have the makings of a playoff team, but this is their first test against on the top teams of Region 1.
Pick: Baker 42, Daphne 24

6A: Helena vs Pelham
This is a sneaky good game with definite playoff implications, although to unknown extent at this point. Helena comes in undefeated, while Pelham is 2-1 and coming off an upset loss to Briarwood Christian. Last year, Helena knocked off Pelham in OT, but it still wasn't enough to lift them into the playoffs. An interesting note for Pelham is that through three games this season, each game has had the opposite result as last year.
Pick: Helena 27, Pelham 24

5A: UMS-Wright vs Vigor
UMS-Wright is in a completely foreign position to them--this is close to a must-win for their playoff hopes. They've already lost to Gulf Shores, and not much about their play so far suggests they'll beat Faith Academy. That makes the round robin between the three teams of UMS, Vigor, and B.C. Rain pivotal, as the last two playoff spots are likely to come down to them. As with most games these teams play, this game is likely to be a low-scoring slugfest.
Pick: UMS-Wright 10, Vigor 6

4A: Jackson vs Bayside Academy
This is a battle of unbeaten teams, but there's no question that Bayside is a massive underdog. Jackson has looked like world-beaters through three games, outscoring their opponents 141-16. And all three games were against quality opponents in Demopolis, Orange Beach, and T.R. Miller. Bayside has had a great start under new coach and former Auburn QB Barrett Trotter, but they'll have to play out of their minds to keep this one close.
Pick: Jackson 44, Bayside Academy 10

3A: Piedmont vs Ohatchee
In my opinion, the Game of the Week in the state, and possibly the game of the regular season, is Sylvania vs Geraldine, but that game was covered by the Barber Shop Gurus. This game comes from that same region and features the two teams favored to take the other playoff spots. Piedmont is in an unfamiliar position coming in with 2 losses already. They are the more talented team, but Ohatchee has been a thorn in their side in recent years.
Pick: Piedmont 26, Ohatchee 21

2A: Sulligent vs Aliceville
The obvious Game of the Week in 2A is B.B. Comer vs Vincent, but we covered that game extensively this week, so I'll go with a different one. Don't let the 1-3 record fool you. Aliceville is still a team capable of making a deep playoff run, and likely will do just that once we reach November. Both these teams are fast and athletic, so there's a chance this turns into a track meet. On the other hand, both play solid defense, so your guess as to what happens is as good as mine.
Pick: Aliceville 40, Sulligent 27

1A: Wadley vs Ragland
Last year Wadley came into this game still off their high from knocking off Spring Garden, but they quickly fell back down to earth after Ragland beat them 32-25. The same situation presents itself this year as well. A win for Wadley essentially locks up the region crown.
Pick: Wadley 34, Ragland 22

Game of the Week in the entire state?

4A #5 Handley at 5A #3 Central Clay County.

This game has it all. It has to small towns that eat, sleep, breathe football. You won?t find another game going on in the state that features to of the state?s traditional powerhouse programs. 2 of the best coaches in the state. 2 programs that won a combine 4 state titles in 7 years.

Wadley and Ragland will be a good one. Ragland is a better team than most of oils expect. Lots of team speed and the QB is an athlete.
