            Shurbet was two-time All-City selectee, also honorable mention on 1960 All-State team; Participated in track, baseball; Played guard, center and end on offense, middle linebacker on defense; Ran 60-yard dash in 7.0 seconds; Handled kickoffs and extra points for Phillips.

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
