Halfback at Foley High. He played four years of varsity football and has racked up some impressive statistics. In nine games in 1962 he gained 929 yards on 103 carries, and made ten touchdowns for a total of 268 points. Punting was his specialty. Among his honors are All-Conference, All-State, and All-South Honorable Mention. He played baseball and enjoyed track.
