Goochs position on his team was an End. His specialty was points after touchdowns. He also specialized in field goals and kickoffs. He has a record of 8 out of 10 P.A.Ts, 24 passes caught for 398 yards. He made All-State, All-Tennessee Valley Conference, Thorn McAn Award. He was the outstanding high school player in his area and also received recognition for being the most valuable lineman of 1963. Mike also played basketball and was on the track team.

Clay County shutout an amazing eleven opponents in 1996. The Panthers outscored their opponents 613-42 finishing the season 15-0.
