Athletic honors included All South Alabama Conference, All State, Honorable Mention All American, and he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Alabama. He was also named All District in basketball. His specialty was place kicking. Grid statistics show 1,499 yards total offense - rushing: 116 carries for 551 yards; passing: attempted 97, completed 56 for 948 yards - 13 touchdowns.
