Whigham was All-South Alabama Conference; 4A All-State Tackle of Birmingham Post Herald. He was District All-Star in baseball, also. He played two years of varsity football and was Captain of his team. His specialty was "Kick-Off". He recovered eight fumbles as a senior and caught 18 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns.
