Patton was a four year letterman at Oneonta. He led his team to the Class 2A state title and scored 36 touchdowns in his career including 14 on pass interceptions alone. Played wide receiver on offense and halfback on defense on the varsity football team three years. Selected Team Captain, "0" Day Game Most Valuable Back, received Most Pass Interceptions Trophy, earned All-County, Birmingham News All-State, and All-American Team honors. Also played tennis and basketball.
