Jones was selected all county three times during his career at Stanhope Elmore. He was also team MVP twice and was a four year letterman. He was named All-American, All-State, All-Metro two years and All-County three years along with being selected as the team MVP twice.

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
