Harris played quarterback and defensive back for the Golden Bears and led them to a 12-2 mark and a berth in the semifinals of the Class 2A state playoffs. His rushing and passing totals were over 1,800 yards. In his last game he ran a quarterback sneak for 99 yards and a touchdown.

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
