Covington had 75 catches for 1,250 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior at John Carroll. He also had 60 tackles and five interceptions returned for 63 yards on defense. He caught 172 passes for over 2,500 yards and 17 touchdowns in his high school career. On defense he tallied 192 tackles, 14 interceptions and scored three touchdowns on defense.
