Whitsett was the Millry MVP and a four year starter, who owns every passing record at Millry High School. He had 7,810 career passing yards and 90 career touchdown passes, 405 career rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. As a senior he completed 137 of 210 (.652%) passing for 2097 yards and 29 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions. He also rushed 48 times for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns. He punted 8 times for a 33.5 average with a long of 52 yards.

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
