Billy Gilbert, from Dothan High played center. This three year varsity man earned an enviable list of honors: Captain of his football squad one year; All-State Class AA; All-Wiregrass; Captain of All-Wiregrass team; Honorable Mention All-American High School; member of the State Champion Basketball Team in 1953-54. Billys specialty was defensive linebacker and extra point kicker, with a record of 9 for 12. Russell Taylor coached this fine athlete.
