            Savage was named All-City two years; honorable mention All-State. He played varsity football three years, captained the squad and specialized in defense. Grid statistics: 21 individual tackles against Phillips of Birmingham in 1956. He also played baseball.

Etowah defeated Oxford 69-63 in 1991 to set a state record for most points scored by both teams in a playoff game.
