Walker was named Second team All-Jefferson County, Second team All-State, Leeds Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Senior. He also played basketball and baseball. He was a four-year varsity gridder, a three year regular, and captain as a senior. He split his time between tackle, linebacker and punter, averaging some 38 yards per kick.

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
