Kent was named All-Confederate Conference and All-State two years, Valleys Back of the Week three times in football; All-Confederate Conference and All-State in basketball. He also played baseball. He played varsity football three years and was captain as a senior. A triple threat, he punted 17 times for a 38.8 yard average, did all the teams passing from the fullback position and led the Confederate Conference by hitting 33 of 50 for 550 yards ) and ran 90 times to gain 625 yards on the ground.
