 Billy Hugh Hudson

Billy Hugh Hudson was selected "Best Athlete" and "Best All-Around" at Marshall County High School (Guntersville) in 1947. While at Guntersville he played football, basketball and baseball. He was selected team captain his senior season.

Hudson attended Auburn on a scholarship before transferring to Jacksonville State in 1948. He was a star performer on the field and later was selected to the schools All-Time team.

The Korean War interrupted his playing days at Jacksonville State. Hudson served two years in the U.S. Army, having played one year of service football before going to Korea.

In 1955, Hudson accepted the head coach position at Randolph County High School in Wedowee. He stayed at Randolph County for only three season before moving over to Clay County High School in Ashland.

Hudsons success continued as head coach of the Panthers in 1958-59. Alabama Governor Bob Riley played on one of Billys teams at Clay County.

He was named Cheaha Conference Coach of the Year in 1959 before leaving for the head coaching job at Boaz in 1960. The 1962 Pirates beat his alma mater, Guntersville, for the first time in 20 years. He was selected head coach of the North squad for the 1964 Alabama High School All-Star Game in Tuscaloosa.

In 1967 he took his talents to Muscle Shoals for nine seasons where he also served as the athletic director. The 1969 Coach of the Year led the Trojans to an 8-2 record, snapping Russellvilles 41-game undefeated streak. Hudsons Trojans of 1970 won for the first time over Deshler.

Hudsons overall football coaching record is 105-89-15. Coach Billy Hugh Hudson was inducted into the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame May 13, 2003.
