Cottonwood Bears
Wayne Trawick
Wayne Trawick was a native of Abbeville where he starred on the football field during his high school playing days in the small southwest Alabama town. After graduating, Trawick played at Troy State before receiving his degree in 1961.
He went straight into coaching as the head football coach at Cottonwood High School in 1962. Trawick spent three seasons at Cottonwood before moving over to Dale County for three seasons and five at Andalusia.
His next move would prove to be long and successful when in 1973 he accepted the head coaching position at Central High School in Phenix City.
For the next 25 years his teams won on a regular basis with seven region crowns and thirteen playoff appearances. His overall record at Central was 185-85-2.
After stepping down from Central in 1998, he became head coach at Glenwood Academy (Phenix City) in 1999. Glenwood competes in the Alabama Independent School Association. His Gator teams made the playoffs four times in his five seasons there.
A former president of the state coaches association, he served as head coach in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game and coached twice in the state All-Star game. He also has served as president of the AHSAA Coaches Association.
Trawicks overall coaching record stands at 285-139-11 over forty-one years. He was inducted in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame and the Wiregrass Hall of Fame.
Trawick was a highly successful high school coach for 41 years; 25 of those at Central High School in Phenix City where he won the Class 6A State Championship in 1993.

The Super 6 State Championships began in 1996. Since then all title games were played at Legion Field in Birmingham until 2009.
